Do Amazon Sellers Need LUCID Registration in Germany?

Do Amazon Sellers Need LUCID Registration in Germany?

If you sell products on Amazon Germany, you may be legally required to register in the LUCID packaging register under the German Packaging Act (Verpackungsgesetz).

This applies not only to German companies, but also to foreign Amazon sellers shipping products to customers in Germany.

What Is LUCID?

LUCID is the official German packaging register managed by the ZSVR.

Its purpose is to ensure that companies placing packaging on the German market participate in recycling systems.

Who Needs LUCID Registration?

In most cases, you need LUCID registration if you:

  • sell products to German consumers

  • use packaging

  • sell on Amazon Germany

  • import products into Germany

  • use FBA or FBM

Even small sellers may still be required to register.

Is LUCID Registration Enough?

No.

Many Amazon sellers make the mistake of registering in LUCID but forgetting packaging licensing.

In most cases you also need:

  • a dual system contract

  • packaging volume reporting

  • ongoing compliance updates

What Happens If You Ignore It?

Possible consequences may include:

  • Amazon listing restrictions

  • warnings

  • fines

  • legal issues

Germany takes packaging compliance seriously.

Do Foreign Amazon Sellers Need It?

Yes.

Foreign companies selling to German customers are usually also responsible for packaging compliance.

This is one of the most misunderstood parts of German EPR regulations.
